How to compress an image to 50KB
- 1 Add your photo Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image, or drag it into the box. The 50 KB target is already filled in.
- 2 Automatic compression The tool reduces the quality, and the dimensions only if needed, so the image stays under 50 KB.
- 3 Download The new size is shown for each image. Upload it to your form.
Where a 50 KB limit applies
Forms that make you compress image to 50KB are common in online applications: passport-size photos for exam or job forms, scanned signatures, small identity documents, profile pictures on administrative portals. Some forms give a range, for example a minimum and a maximum size, and a phone photo is always far above it.
50 KB leaves enough room for a sharp passport-size photo as long as it is cropped to the face and shoulders. Crop first, use a plain background and good light, and avoid sending a full phone picture of the whole room: the tool would have to shrink it a lot. If the form also sets pixel dimensions, crop to that ratio before compressing.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compress a photo to 50KB?
Add it on this page: the 50 KB target is preset. The tool adjusts the quality, and the size if needed, until the photo is under 50 KB. You can then download it.
How do I resize a passport photo to 50KB without losing quality?
Crop the photo to the head and shoulders before compressing. With fewer pixels to store, the tool can keep a higher quality within 50 KB.
My form needs between 20 KB and 50 KB. Is that possible?
Often, yes, but it is not guaranteed: the tool makes sure the image does not exceed 50 KB, not that it stays above 20 KB. Check the size shown after compression; if it is too small, compress the original again with a higher quality and no target size.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Your images never leave your device and nothing is stored.
Is it free?
Yes. No account, no email address, up to 20 images at a time.
