How to compress a PDF to 1MB

  1. 1 Add your PDF Choose your file or drag it into the box. The 1 MB target is already selected.
  2. 2 Automatic compression The tool starts with the setting that changes the least and only goes further if the file is still over 1 MB.
  3. 3 Download The final size is shown. Your PDF is ready to upload or send.

Why 1 MB is a practical size

You may need to compress PDF to 1MB for an upload form, a client portal, a school platform or an email that keeps bouncing. Long scanned documents, theses, reports with charts and exported presentations often weigh several megabytes, mostly because of the images they contain.

1 MB is a generous target: a document of several dozen pages usually fits with sharp text and clean images. Very large files, such as a catalog of hundreds of photos, may not get there. The tool then gives you the lightest result with its size, and you can split the PDF into several parts that each stay under 1 MB.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce a PDF to 1MB?

Add your file on this page. The 1 MB target is preset: the tool tries stronger settings one after the other and keeps the first result under 1 MB.

Will my PDF look different?

Text, lines and fonts stay identical. Only the images are recompressed, and at 1 MB the difference is often hard to see on screen.

Why can't my PDF get under 1MB?

A file with many large photos may be too heavy even with the strongest setting. You then get the smallest version the tool reached, with its size. Split the PDF into parts or remove pages you don't need.

Is there a file size limit?

You can add files of up to 100 MB each, and up to 20 files at a time.

Are my files stored?

No. They are processed on our server during the request and deleted once the compressed PDF is sent back to you. The tool is free and needs no account.
